Agate is the name given to numerous varieties of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the quartz group.  Like other quartz minerals, Agates have trigonal crystal structure and a hardness of 7. 

Cleaning:  Use a silver polishing cloth or silver polish on the sterling silver chain.  A damp, soapy, wash cloth is best used to wipe down the Agate stone.
